I ain’t no seven eleven I ain’t open all the time I rather dislike situations when I can’t unwind I love wine more than my lovers But I don’t drink it every night I still ain’t got no woman So I get along all right Go sacrifice your day Forfeit tomorrow’s pay Drink all of your money down See how good you feel There’s a time for heavy drinking There’s a time for getting high And when there’s work to be done Baby I get to bed on time I don’t wake up for roses I don’t wake up for the news I don’t wake up next to anyone I don’t soberly choose I’m up before the sunrise I’ve got coffee on my breath But if I could live without sleep Then I would not ever rest Go sacrifice your day Forfeit tomorrow’s pay Drink all of your money down See how good you feel There’s a time for heavy drinking There’s a time for getting high And when there’s work to be done Baby I get to bed on time Well all these working people tell you That you’ve gotta choose Between passion and a paycheck Oh my friend you’re born to lose I believe you can do anything With time and elbow grease Throw away your TVs Moderate your drinks Go sacrifice your day Forfeit tomorrow’s pay Drink all of your money down See how good you feel There’s a time for heavy drinkin There’s a time for getting high And when there’s work to be done Baby I get to bed on time There's a time for heavy drinking There's a time for getting high When there's work to be done Baby I get to bed on time Oh when there's work to be done Baby I get to bed on time Oh when there's work to be done No I don't bitch or whine When there's work to be done Baby I get to bed on time

Noise out back We run in the night Chase all the deer Through a field with a spotlight Woah I hear them running And I’m out of breathe Instinct keeps us Running to death Woah But I want to feel the pain Oh my god I want to make you laugh Oh I want to feel the pain Oh my god I want to make you laugh Woah Chicken pot pie Run out of coffee The fire in your eyes Is enough to keep me warm Woah These are the kinds of stories We’ll find ourselves telling our friends When we’re old When we’re old I want to make you mine Oh my god you look so fine tonight I want to make you mine Oh my god you look so fine tonight I want to feel the pain Oh my god I want to make you laugh Forever you’ll be mine Oh my god you look so fine tonight I want to feel the pain Oh my god I want to make you laugh Forever you’ll be mine Oh my god you look so fine tonight

California 04:04
Tomorrow I’m going to California I’ve got problems to sleep away I’ve had one too many bad ideas Now I’ve got no friends to make me stay Tomorrow I’m going to California I hear the valleys of wine smell sweet Someday I’ll forget why I ever left Until then I’ll stay there and drink All your friends will disappear When the darkness turns to light Make your shadows dance We’ll all die sometime Don’t slip away into the night If only love will keep us breathing California keeps us dreaming Tomorrow I’m going to California Trying all along to quench my thirst There’s never an excuse to leave the one you love Unless of course she left you first All your friends will disappear When the darkness turns to light Make your shadows dance We’ll all die sometime Don’t slip away into the night If only love will keep us breathing California keeps us dreaming Please hold my hand for a moment We’ve gone downhill all along and I’ve known it But I can’t stop the earth from spinning I won’t stop our hearts from feeling I’ll remember every name Of all the people that I’m meeting I nickname all my companions Like I’m ten years old again I will remember this feeling California is for dreaming All your friends will disappear When the darkness turns to light Make your shadows dance We’ll all die sometime Don’t slip away into the night If only love will keep us breathing California keeps us dreaming

Come with Me 05:29
Girl you got me in your pocket Take my money if you want it Take everything I own Restless eyes don’t sleep for days My thoughts all come back to your name Don’t ever let me go I’m running away It’s never too late baby I’m leaving today What do you say Come with me I was a bird who’s flying backwards I was caught up in a noisy world You’re the wind that sets me straight If you’re the water I’m the rocket Calm me down when I don’t want it Extinguish my flame I’m running away It’s never too late baby I’m leaving today What do you say Come with me I’ll never be a wealthy man But you’ll always have my heart in your hands Always love me face to face Heart is beating at a faster pace I’m running away It’s never too late baby I’m leaving today What do you say Come with me Bottles of wine fix all our problems And scratches always leave their marks Scratch me up anyway Well others wait to bring you flowers But I’ll dance with you in the shower Rain on me any day I’m running away It’s never too late baby I’m leaving today What do you say Come with me

Soft Serve 04:10
You look right away as our eyes meet Need just another hand to hold all of your things Tripping on the bricks like a thought out tease In your hand a cone of soft serve ice cream One more time I’ll act like I don’t know any better But girl I see your footwork getting better all the time You got used to keeping track of me You say your sweet tooth brings good company I think oh my god I will lose my cool and start to nod Good lord, she could never be The sweetest flavor of all I need I’d taste her sweet From her hands to her feet Yeah I caught you running on your way out the door I said I’d intercept you girl Before you hit the floor And I’m mess That ain’t nothing new to me I know you care But you won’t dare to make a scene I think oh my god I will lose my cool and start to nod Good lord, she could never be The sweetest flavor of all I need I’d taste her sweet From her hands to her feet Yeah So turn around one more time I will try to catch your eye One more time Darling mine Please don’t Don’t walk on by Don’t walk on by I think oh my god I will lose my cool and start to nod Good lord, she could never be The sweetest flavor of all I need I’d taste her sweet From her hands to her feet Yeah

Feel so Fine 03:44
Clock’s run out and I'm ready for the weekend I'm gonna pack up the cooler Gonna call all my friends Driving all night just to get where we're going Oh lord With you holding my hand in the front seat I'm knowing Hey hey baby I feel so fine I dance around a fire that burns all night I want a new direction A new kind of rhyme I want to close my eyes And cross that line Show me what you've got I've never been surprised by you And when you take off your jeans Baby I'll go crazy too Drinking all night My how long has it been Since you gave a life in the city For a good country weekend Get me alone I won't make you regret it Let's go walk in the night And lay out in the sticks Lie on your back and you point at the stars I got your body on mine And your love in my heart Hey hey baby I feel so fine I dance around a fire that burns all night I want a new direction A new kind of rhyme I want to close my eyes And cross that line Hey hey baby I feel so fine I dance around a fire that burns all night I want a new direction A new kind of rhyme I want to close my eyes And cross that line Please slow down It's not like I'm smarter Than I was a year ago I still don't know anything that you don't And I still remember finding our way home In the dark On a Saturday night We were out of our minds We were more than all right Oh oh oh oh Hey hey baby I feel so fine I dance around a fire that burns all night I want a new direction A new kind of rhyme I want to close my eyes And cross that line Hey hey baby I feel so fine I dance around a fire that burns all night I want a new direction A new kind of rhyme I want to close my eyes And cross that line Oh yeah

Heartbreak 03:43
For two days I lost the time that was placed on my wrist Oh Sunday Would heaven help a man who’s lost his way If he tried oh he tried to keep those feelings going If he tried oh he tried just to end up lost and lonely Why wait If everything you want is within your reach Oh it's heartbreak When all that was right becomes a slap in the face Well you try oh you try to keep those feelings going Oh you try oh you try not to end up lost and lonely But sweet Jesus I can't control myself Am I the dog or am I the game I'm hooked on those candy cane video girls Don't they know just what I need Twice the work half the wage Yes indeed Don't you know what I mean Need a little more heartbreak Or the twisted pain of a knife in the chest And all these mistakes Were made long before our good intentions left Well we tried oh we tried to keep those feelings going Oh We tried oh we tried not to end up lost and lonely But sweet Jesus I can't control myself Am I the dog or am I the game I'm hooked on those candy cane video girls Don't they know just what I need Twice the work half the wage Yes indeed Don't you know what I mean Lately the wine is not as sweet as it used to be Oh baby just tell me what I need I know it sure ain't sleep I have tried oh I’ve tried to keep those feelings going I have tried oh I’ve tried but I end up lost and lonely But sweet Jesus I can't control myself Am I the dog or am I the game I'm hooked on those candy cane video girls Don't they know just what I need Twice the work half the wage Yes indeed Don't you know what I mean Oh

Honest Man 04:33
Well I was born a bad man I've been running since I was ten I was caught once stealing candy And I swore it would never happen again I swore it would never happen again I can run all around this town The fruit of my labor is gold Harvesting the coin from the pocket So I won't have to work when I'm old I won’t have to work when I’m old I say oh I tell them catch me once and you're good You'll never do it again lord Preacher said that Jesus Christ Will rescue me from all my sin I say catch me once and you're good Oh you'll never do it again Preacher said that Jesus Christ Will rescue me from all my sin So lord I’m gonna be an honest man Oh yes I am Gonna be I'm gonna be I'm gonna be an honest man Lord I'm gonna be I'm gonna be I'm gonna be an honest man I was caught on the bad end Of a friendly trade gone wrong With too many watches in my pockets I got no time to get back home No time to get back home But I can escape from the best Oh lord no jail holds me down Even a young man can grow tired Of always running around Always running around Oh I tell them catch me once and you're good You'll never do it again lord Preacher said that Jesus Christ Will rescue me from all my sin I say catch me once and you're good Oh you'll never do it again Preacher said that Jesus Christ Will rescue me from all my sin So lord I’m gonna be an honest man Oh yes I am Gonna be I'm gonna be I'm gonna be an honest man Lord I'm gonna be I'm gonna be I'm gonna be an honest man Help me Lord I'm tired I've got a woman who wants my name Heaven knows I love her the most So I'm going to be an honest man Cause she thinks I'm an honest man Finally they set me free I'm running to get back home Cause the woman I've got waiting on me Is sweeter than silver and gold Sweeter than silver and gold

Take Me Home 03:32
Holding down the fortress We’re waiting on a dream Well it’s past 4 A.M. now Lord I wish I could sleep Lord I wish I could sleep Sweet relief unlike any I have known My darling’s promises are calling me back home She had me pushed against the wall I said can I get some more of that And can I take you home Not just my valentine Makes me lie awake No she’s a different kind In my head but that’s my mistake My head that’s my mistake Well it’s hard to close the curtains On all those smiling faces No matter how they try nothing will contain us They’ll push us hard against their walls We don’t want no more of that Come on let’s go home Sweet relief unlike any I have known My darling’s promises are calling me back home I’m not strong enough to drink alone I swear I’ll never leave again Baby take me home

When you think of hills Think of all the shining prairies You could dream a bird’s eye view You could swallow the sky whole Climb on out your window Run on out to the porch I will catch you baby I will never let you fall When I sleep I dream of you I see you in the stars Don’t waive the debts of gamblers Or for another’s sin you will pay Don’t trust in someone Who tells you that they won’t stay Your life sure ain’t a straight line But it brought you here today See without you to lean on We’ve been curving all the way We don’t need to go far Just enough to make a change Fall asleep on the train When you wake take a new name Oh we sometimes lose our way We forget what we went after So don’t waive the debts of gamblers Or for another’s sin you will pay Don’t trust in someone Who tells you that they won’t stay Your life sure ain’t a straight line But it brought you here today See without you to lean on We’ve been curving all the way Don’t you see how this world will turn against you Don’t you see the way it keeps you running Don’t give up on a love that won’t give you away If you feel like starting over Today is your day To go all the way All the way All the way Oh

We sit here laying under the stars You talk about where you are gonna be When you leave this city But where am I gonna be When you leave me You make me wonder about the possibilities Do you still think of me oh Your eyes shine so bright All colors fade to gray If you still see the stars you’re not that far away When you see me, when l lay down I’ll wait for you to come around Please don’t make me beg you to stay I can’t let you go Talk to me like I should know how to feel Tell me were we ever real Did I ever have that hope I tend to remember only good times Romance and stealing candy And drawing lines on your arm We never got that far But one day five lines turned into a star You make me wonder about the possibilities Do you still think of me oh Your eyes shine so bright All colors fade to gray If you still see the stars you’re not that far away When you see me, when I lay down I’ll wait for you to come around Please don’t make me beg you to stay I can’t let you go Just talk to me like I should know how to feel Tell me were we ever real Did I ever have that hope You make me wonder about the possibilities Do you still think of me oh Your eyes shine so bright All colors fade to gray If you still see the stars you’re not that far away When you see me, when I lay down I’ll wait for you to come around Please don’t make me beg you to stay I can’t let you go Talk to me like I should know how to feel Tell me were we ever real Did I ever have that hope

about

This album was recorded in March 2016 by Grant Boesen, Austin Groom, and Jason Snavely to capture the energy and style of Pretend Friend at that point in time.

This album was live-tracked using six microphones and a field recorder in an industrial warehouse in Wichita, Kansas. The final recordings were mixed and mastered by our friend, Brody Wellman.

Enjoy!
